Steve Prefontaine was only 24 years when he died. He was born in 1951 in Coos Bay, Oregon and attended Marshfield High School where he found he had a gift for running. Steve Prefontaine always gave his best so he would not sacrifice his "gift."
Steve Prefontaine is honored every year at the Prefontaine Memorial Run in Coos Bay, Oregon. This is a 10K road race over one of the same training courses that Steve Prefontaine ran. Its finish line is at the Marshfiled High School track.
Come to downtown Coos Bay, Oregon September 20, 2008 at 10 am and run where Steve Prefontaine became PRE.
The Prefontaine Run is sanctioned by the Road Runners Club of America. The annual run is is part of Coos Bay's Annual Fun Festival. The Prefontaine Memorial Run in 2008 will be the 29th annual run.
